COVID Quarantine

Here we are, nearly a week into this "new normal" of social-distancing, shortages, "safer-at home" protocols and Net Flix binge watching. I have to say, I see nothing "normal" about it!

Interestingly, Real Estate is considered an "essential" business, so I am navigating uncharted waters. My work has changed, and I'm sure yours has, too. Showing properties is done virtually online, or through a Face-to-Face phone app. Open houses, at least for a while, are cancelled. Hand sanitizer is now a part of all showings and I open closet doors and kitchen cabinets with a wipe in my hand. Real Estate closings are still taking place, but often in separate rooms with separate pens. Despite all these hiccups, houses are still selling!  Oh, times, they are a changin’!

I have, however, found some positives in all the change.

I am playing board games with my family
I'm talking with friends (via phone) that I haven't spoken to in a while
I'm getting outside every day for a walk or a bike ride
I am cooking more - but not necessarily better :)
I am finding my sleep more restful
And I am learning to slow down and be grateful for the little things in life.

I hope you are well and staying safe.

Real Estate and COVID-19

Yep, last week I was on vacation. It was beautiful, sunny and warm. But relaxing? Less than normal. Why? You guessed it, the COVID-19 grip was real.  When we left, there were no issues.  Hand-sanitizer was in short supply, but otherwise it was business as usual.  In a few short days, the chaos had a grip with closures, shortages and social-distancing.

As a result of all the worry, I spent a good portion of my vacation time in contact with clients answering questions. Is the closing going to happen? What about our inspection? How will I get a cashiers check? I had all the answers and I was happy to serve! My advise? Don't panic. Stay home if you can. Wash your hands. Be smart.

It has changed the landscape of Real Estate locally.  Most open houses are canceled.  Some Sellers are limiting showings of their properties.  But, the bottom line for Real Estate is Sellers are still wanting to sell and Buyers are still wanting to buy. It just might mean a flattening of the process just as we are flattening the curve of the virus. I'm here for you no matter where I am!

There are several historic areas in Madison.  One of the most delightful of these is the Vilas neighborhood.

Sprinkled with Queens Anne’s, Bungalows and four-square homes, this neighborhood is anything but cookie-cutter.  Add in the walkability (Can you say Monroe St.?) and the gem that is Vilas Park and Zoo, and it’s like walking through “Mayberry”!  The charm envelops you.  If you have some time, wander around the Vilas area.  It’s worth the time!
