I think that I shall never see, a poem as lovely as a Tree...
Those are the opening words of a poem entitled "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer. Those words, the entire poem in fact, are part of a larger piece of artwork lovingly knitted by the owner of a house in Westmorland on Madison's west side.
For several years, the tree in the parkway near the street was dressed in a "tree sweater", also knit by the homeowner. Walkers, bikers, joggers and all sorts of passersby would stop and photograph and admire the artwork.
Recently, the old, worn and faded sweater was removed and a new glorious and brilliant replacement was wrapped around the tree trunk and branches. It offers the owner a bit of brightness on cold and dreary winter days. It offers the same to those who wander by and see the loviless that is is. One admirer said it was as if the artist is filling the hearts of all who pass by.
What a wonderful thing! I couldn't agree more.
